July 1 protest, Hong Kong.

This site has been created by me, Cherian George, for journalism students at Hong Kong Baptist University. It brings together online resources related to the concept of freedom of expression, with an emphasis on media in Asia.

Different countries may have their own ways to define (or ignore) this right, but here’s the most internationally recognised articulation:

Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice.” – Article 19 (2), International Covenant on Civil & Political Rights (ICCPR)

Now, let’s try to understand this right better. To go to the next page, click the link in the bottom right. (You can also move around this site through the menu. Can’t find the menu? It’s behind the three horizontal bars at the top left of the page:  menu bar ) But before going further, please give your initial opinion about the above right to freedom of expression …
